A Complete Training Path with Magpie Beauty Education

Starting your journey as a nail technician is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming when deciding which course to take first. With so many systems, techniques, and products available, it’s important to begin with strong foundations and build your skills step-by-step.

At Magpie Beauty Education, our courses are designed to guide beginners through the nail industry in a structured way so you can gain confidence, learn professional techniques, and grow your skills at a comfortable pace.

Here is the recommended training pathway for someone completely new to nails.

Step 1: Start with a Gel Polish Foundation

Every nail technician needs a strong understanding of natural nail preparation, theory, hygiene, and gel polish application. This is why beginners start with our Gel Colour Masterclass.

This course covers the essential theory needed for working safely and professionally, alongside learning how to correctly apply gel polish for a long-lasting, salon-quality finish. It’s the perfect starting point for anyone beginning their nail career.

If you’d like to learn a little more during your first course, you can upgrade to the Manigel Masterclass.

The Manigel class includes everything from the Gel Colour Masterclass, but also teaches:
• Glitter application
• French manicure techniques

This gives beginners extra creative skills right from the start.

When passion meets skill, a nail artist doesn’t just create beautiful nails — she creates her future.

Step 2: Move Into Builder Gel

Once you feel confident with gel polish, many technicians move on to builder gel systems to strengthen natural nails and create longer-lasting overlays.

Our Build It Masterclass teaches how to apply builder gel to natural nails, allowing you to create structured overlays that add strength and durability while maintaining a natural look.

Builder gel services are extremely popular with clients and are a fantastic next step for beginners wanting to expand their treatment menu.

Style is knowing who you are, expressing without speaking

Step 3: Learn Nail Extensions

If you want to offer longer nails and appeal to more clients, learning extensions is the next stage.

Our Extend It Masterclass can be added onto the builder gel training and covers how to create nail extensions using:
• Nail tips &
• Nail forms
It will also cover how to apply your Build It builder gel over these extension systems and how to remove/infill the product.

Step 4: Faster Extensions with Full Coverage Tips

For nail technicians who want to create extensions quickly, we offer the Full On Tips Express Masterclass.

This system uses full coverage tips, making it possible to create beautiful extensions in a much shorter appointment time. It’s a fantastic option for busy salons or technicians who want a quicker extension service especially during busy times of the year.

Step 5: Speed Up Your Work with an E-File

Once you begin working on clients regularly, speed and efficiency become very important.

Our E-File Masterclass teaches you how to safely and professionally use an electric nail file to:
• Speed up infills
• Improve your finishing work
• Reduce strain on your hands and wrists (RSI)

For many nail technicians, learning to use an e-file is a huge step forward in improving both speed and precision.

Step 6: Develop Your Creativity with Nail Art

Nail art is a fantastic way to grow your creativity and stand out in the industry.

Magpie Beauty offers nail art classes that teach a wide range of techniques and designs. These are available as:
• Live in-person training
• Pre-recorded online workshops

Nail art training allows technicians to expand their services and attract clients who love unique designs but it is also not essential. We have beginners classes in nail art if this is something you’re nervous about.

Step 7: Explore Advanced Extension Systems

As your experience grows, you may want to explore additional nail systems that offer different strengths, flexibility, and finishes.

Hard Gel

Hard gel is a fantastic system for nails that require extra strength with less flexibility. It’s ideal for clients who are harder on their nails or who prefer stronger structured extensions.

Acrygel

Acrygel combines the strength of acrylic with the flexibility of gel. It is very strong but still slightly flexible, which can help nails last longer if they are knocked or bumped.

Another benefit is that acrygel avoids the strong smells and mixing ratios associated with traditional acrylic systems.
